Bayanzul Damdinsuren
Bayanzul grew up in a family of musicians. Surrounded by artists from the traditional Mongolian arts, he discovered the horse-headed fiddle and throat singing as a teenager. He first studied at the Mongolian Music and Dance College and later at the Mongolian University of Culture and Arts in Ulan Bator, where he graduated in 2012.
After his first degree in 2008, he began teaching others to play the horse-headed fiddle. He further developed his own style through numerous ensembles and collaborations in Asia and later in Europe, which expanded to Switzerland in 2019.
He has a deep friendship with Switzerland. Since 2013, he has traveled here as a musician, showcasing his culture and at the same time creating connections to the local world.
As part of his commitment to the Swiss association Mandach Naran, he has been engaging in musical dialog with Swiss artists since 2018. His collaboration with the Swiss composer Raphael Sommer, which was visualized in the award-winning music video “Cascading Matter”, his concerts with the Naran Quartet or the Young Choir Zurich (JUCHZ), among others, met with great approval. He also began giving short courses in Switzerland in 2024.
