Prof. Grzegorz Stopa
Polish accordionist and pedagogue (b. 1973), studied with Prof. W. L. Puchnowski at the F. Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw and as scholar of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with Prof. Mie Miki at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen. He is laureate of several important accordion competitions, debuted within the scope of the Mecklenburg - Vorpommern Festival (Solisten der Jungen Elite, 2003) and in the Großer Musikvereinssaal in Vienna (2009). He has been invited as soloist and chamber musician in the framework of music festivals, like the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the Asahi Beer Lobby Concerts in Tokyo, Wien Modern, the Feldkirch Festival, „Ohren auf Europa“ in Düsseldorf or to conemporary music projects in Darmstadt or Rome (Accademia Tedesca Villa Massimo) as well as concert halls like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (Mozart Hall), Casalas Hall and Kyoi Hall in Tokyo. The artistic exploration in respect to different stylistic periods and especially his cooperation with composers (K. Aho, Dirk D´Ase, S. Gubaidulina, S.-I. Koch, M. Nomura, B. Spassov a. o.) as well as with contemporary music ensembles , belong to the most important focuses of his artistic work.

With Grzegorz Stopa, already two successful international accordion classes, at the Konservatorium Wien University (since 2005) and at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold (since 2009, since 2012 as Prof. honoris causa), have been created. Many of his students from both classes are laureates of international music competitions and additionally they have won first prizes as best soloists and chamber musicians in internal university and academy competitions (2008, 2009, 2011 in Vienna; 2010 in Detmold). In the year 2011, he created a novel artistic – pedagogical project “Formation New Accordion” (FONA), where he performs together with his best students and alumni and works with them as an equal member researching in the field of new techniques of interpretation and sound of the classical accordion. Among others, the FONA Project was presented in its own concert within the scope of the Leipzig Bach Festival (Bach Festivals of the Neue Bachgesellschaft e. V.) and other international music festivals in Poland and Italy.
