After graduating from high school he studied at the Cologne Music Conservatory followed by further studies in Basel, Switzerland under Roswitha Gediga and the famous Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman. Carl Wolf completed his studies in Cologne as well as his soloist diploma in Basel with 'distinction'.

During his studies he began performing intensively not only at concert evenings but also as soloist with orchestras and with various chamber group combinations, from duo to quintet.

After winning the 52nd 'Ferruccio Busoni' International Piano Competition in Bozen, Italy, he gave his solo debut with the Symphony Orchestra Basel in 2003, playing Johannes Brahms' first piano concert. In the following year, and with the same orchestra, he performed the American composer Samuel Barber's piano concert, conducted by the Chief Conductor at the time, Marko Letonja.

Carl Wolf has furthermore played concerts in the Cologne Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Musikhalle Hamburg, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, and the Casino Basel as well as in numerous other cities in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Holland, Portugal and Switzerland. Apart from performing in concert, Carl Wolf also accompanies students at the Music Academy in Basel. He has recently increased his teaching activities and since February 2007 he has been a lecturer at the Swiss Winterthur Conservatory where he is responsible for a class of 20 students.

Moreover, Carl Wolf has been engaged for the winter term 2010-2011 as accompanist at the Basel Conservatory of Music, principally for violoncello, with the classes of Professor Thomas Demenga and Professor Rafael Rosenfeld.
